Along with Luol Deng, the Miami HEAT have agreed to send Gerald Green, Zoran Dragic, and Amare Stoudamire to the New York Knicks for Robin Lopez, Mitch McGary, and Kyle O'Quinn. Capped at fifteen men on their roster, the New York Knicks routed Zoran Dragic to the Washington Wizards. Along with Zoran Dragic, the Washington Wizards will receive a 2020 second round pick from the Utah Jazz. Utah, in an attempt to leverage future cap space, will send rookie Centre, Tibor Pleiß alongside Raul Neto and $500,000 dollars to the Miami HEAT for veteran guard Mario Chalmers.
How do the Numbers Work?
Soft-capped at $76,490,909, the Miami HEAT were not yet within the luxury tax, forcing them to comply with the the rule that states that the incoming salary must fall under the outgoing salary plus five million dollars. Because of this, it was necessary for Washington to absorb Zoran Dragic's salary.
The initial deal of Robin Lopez, Mitch McGary, and Kyle O'Quinn for Luol Deng, Gerald Green, and Amare Stoudamire was not possible, as total of $17,863,040 was too large a difference from Miami's outgoing salaries of $12,046,164. Though it would fall within the 150% rule, because the incoming salary is above 9.8 million dollars for the Miami HEAT, the rule is therefor invalid.
To accommodate for this, the Washington Wizards will take in Zoran Dragic's expiring deal worth slightly over 1.7 million dollars by utilizing their Traded Player Exception spawned from the Blake Griffin deal.
Making 2.9 million dollars this season, Tibor Pleiß and Raul Neto ($900,000) combine for 3.8 million dollars, two hundred thousand shy of Mario Chalmers' $4,000,000 deal. This allows the trade to be legal under the 150% rule.

By completing this trade, the New York Knicks open up a combined $18,664,040 in 2016's Free Agency and bolster their wing position. The Miami HEAT, in startling contrast, now have a combined ninety million dollars committed to both Robin Lopez and Nikola Pekovic.
